As they grow in strength and experience, animal companions, familiars, and mounts develop mutations, personality quirks, and tricks that grant them new abilities unlike those seen in typical animals of their kind. The following Edges can be chosen by an animal companion when it is allowed to take an Edge. Additionally, a character taking the Beast Master Edge can apply one of these Edges to his companion as long as it meets the Requirements (this is instead of the normal benefits of the Beast Master Edge).
Requirements: Animal, Spirit d6+
The animal’s devotion to its master allows it to stand against unnatural forces.
Powers and Innate Powers targeting the animal suffer -4 to the arcane skill roll when cast by Aberrations, Outsiders, and Undead. The animal is also immune to the Unnatural Aura ability that some undead creatures (such as wraiths) have.
Requirements: Animal, Fighting d8+
The animal’s presence harries nearby enemies, making concentration difficult.
The animal companion is trained to interfere with its opponent’s concentration, making even rote tasks difficult. Enemies in melee with this animal suffer -2 on arcane skill rolls.
Requirements: Animal, Agility d6+
The animal’s grace and agility are honed for battle, making it a deadly combatant. The animal can use its Agility instead of Strength when dealing damage.
Requirements: Animal, Fighting d6+
Once per turn, when the animal companion is adjacent to its master and its master is the target of a melee attack, the animal companion can intercept the attack, taking the damage instead of its master.
If the animal companion is ordered to do so by its master, it can use this ability on other adjacent targets.
Requirements: Animal, Notice d8+
The animal is capable of quickly pinpointing hidden prey.
The animal companion gains a +2 bonus when attempting to detect invisible enemies. In addition, whenever the animal companion successfully uses Notice to detect a creature using Stealth or to pinpoint an invisible creature’s location, that foe becomes Vulnerable.
